“I am almosting it.”
– James Joyce Ulysses
This is from Proteus, the dense, stream of consciousness, convoluted, shape-shifting (like the Greek god, Proteus) 3rd chapter of Ulysses.
The anti-hero protagonist, Stephen Dedalus, is trying to remember a dream. “After he woke me up last night same dream or was it?… I am almosting it.”
Almosting, yes! So often I have been trapped in that, not-quite-there-but maybe-close feeling about life, love, art, career and fatherhood.
